Why WhatsApp?
WhatsApp is the world's most popular messaging app with over 2 billion users. Connecting your OpenClaw to WhatsApp means you can access your AI assistant in the app you already use every day.
How It Works
ClawServe uses the WhatsApp Business API to connect your OpenClaw instance to a WhatsApp number. Messages you send to this number are processed by your AI assistant, and responses are sent back to you in real time.
Setup Overview
- Create a Meta Business Account at business.facebook.com
- Set up WhatsApp Business API through the Meta developer portal
- Generate an access token for API communication
- Configure the webhook URL — provided in your ClawServe Dashboard under Channels > WhatsApp
- Verify your phone number — Meta requires a verified number for the Business API
Important Notes
- WhatsApp Business API requires a Meta Business account (free to create)
- You'll need a phone number that isn't already registered with WhatsApp
- Message templates are required for outbound messages (inbound is unrestricted)
- ClawServe handles the webhook infrastructure — you just provide the credentials
